A Bown motorcycle & its rider.

Godfrey has this 1950's photograph in his files, and kindly sent it over for inclusion on the site. It shows his Father astride a Bown motorcycle, which he used to commute to and from his place of work, at RAF Marham, a distance of 80-90 miles away. The motorcycle looks to be new in this photo, and the insurance document, which commenced cover from the 4th June 1952, probably ties in with the date of this photograph. The registration was UPU 38, an Essex-area series that ran from June 1952 onwards.
A Bown motorcycle of 98cc
This particular Bown was a 98cc example, apparently there was also a 125cc version, visually very similar apart from a repositioned toolbox to accomodate the larger engine. The Bown was available in both Standard and De Luxe trim, the latter benefiting from the fitment of a battery, which allowed the lights to remain illuminated even when the engine wasn't running.
