Hi, I am the secretary for The Cambridge-Oxford Owners Club. We would like to invite ALL Classic & Vintage vehicle owners to join us for our National Rally & Tour of Snowdonia. + + + + PRESS RELEASE + + + + The Cambridge-Oxford Owners Club National Rally & Tour of Snowdonia, Spring Bank Holiday Weekend Sat/Sun/Mon May 26th,27th&28th.2007The 2007 National Rally will be held at Tywyn, Gwynedd, on the Mid Wales coast over the Spring Bank Holiday Weekend as part of The Tal-y-llyn Railway’s Tom Rolt Steam and Vintage Rally. The event will also include the C.O.O.C Tour of Snowdonia which proved very popular in 2006. The tour will start from the Britannia Car Park, Tadcaster, North Yorks. At 7am on Sat. May 26th with several meeting points along the way. We shall be at The Hartford Moor Diner, Westbound on the A556 Northwich Bypass between 9.30 and 10.30 am a popular meeting point for those travelling to previous Welsh Rallies. We shall also be at Bala Lakeside Car Park just out side Bala on the A494 between 12 noon and 12.30 pm. We should arrive in Afon Fathew ( the Tywyn area) around 2pm. Here we shall all go our separate ways to book in to our chosen accommodation. There will be an optional Evening Get together on the Saturday Evening ( weather permitting) similar to the one at the Scottish Rally with a barbecue. Hopefully there will be other convoys to the rally from other areas in the country meeting up for the rally and tour of Snowdonia. Please let me know if you are organising a convoy from your area so I can let any one who may enter individually know where they can join you.Sunday will be the main day for the rally though exhibits are welcome on the field throughout the weekend. The rally field is situated just on the edge of Tywyn on the A493. The C.O.O.C. Area will be clearly marked and will be close to the arena. As well as our club vehicles there will be many other classic and vintage vehicles and a display of Traction engines and other agricultural exhibits normally associated with a Steam and Vintage Event. During the day you can have a go at driving a Traction Engine or you might like to take a ride on the Tal-y-llyn Railway. The line runs close by the rally field and you can board the train at Hendy Halt, just a short walk away. The Tal-y-llyn Railway was the first railway in the world to be saved from closure by a preservation society who still run the line today using all the original 1865 engines and rolling stock. The line runs from Tywyn to Nant Gwernol where there are many interesting walks in the wooded ravine. Or you can alight at Dolgoch Falls and spend an hour or so exploring the falls and return on a later train. Prize Giving will be at 4pm with the usual C.O.O.C. awards including the Heritage Trophy. Slate attendance plaques will be given to all pre booked entries. These are provided by the Tal-y-llyn Railway. After the rally on Sunday evening there will be an optional run of about 20 miles to a country pub for a bar meal. I will need to know when you enter the event if you would like to join us as places will have to be booked at the Pub to ensure there is room and there is food available for everyone. Or you can take the train to Abergynolwyn for the Barbecue. This is for all rally entrants and T.R. members. Tickets will be available from the Tal-y-llyn Railway stand during the event. On Bank Holiday Monday we shall meet at Dolgoch Falls Car Park at 9.30 am for our day tour of Snowdonia. The run will be via Tan-y-bwlch for morning coffee, then on to The Padarn Country Park at Llanberis for a lunch Break and end at Betws –y-Coed for those who are making there way home or return to the Afon Fathew area via Bleanau Ffestinog and the Tal-y-llyn Pass for those staying in the area. Betws-y-Coed is an ideal place to end the tour as it is on the A5 the main road back to The Midlands and London linking with routes to all areas. Entry to The C.O.O.C. National Rally & Tour of Snowdonia is Free and this will include entry to The Tom Rolt Rally and travel concessions on The Tal-y-llyn Railway. ALL ENTRIES MUST BE PRE BOOKED and Closing Date For Entries is May 1st. Please send a Stamped Addressed Envelope with your entry form for the return of your pass and final details which will be sent out in Early May. Late Entries May be accepted on the day but will not receive any travel concessions on the Tal-y-llyn Railway or an attendance plaque. Autojumblers are welcome (BUT MUST BE PRE BOOKED) and you will be able to sell spares from your car in traditional C.O.O.C. fashion. A list of local accommodation is available on receipt of your completed entry form . There are many camp sites, B&Bs and Hotels in the area but early booking is recommended as this is a busy weekend in the area and things get booked up quickly. Please Note it is up to All Rally Entrants To Book Their Own Accommodation. Camping on the Rally field is allowed but there are little in the way of facilities save porta-loos. All camping on the field must be pre booked as space is limited. Most club members who like to camp and have attended previous C.O.O.C. Welsh Rallies use Tynllwyn Caravan & Camping Site which is about 2 miles from the Rally Field in an idyllic setting in Afon Fathew by the line side at Rhydyronen Station. Tel 01654 710370 It is 10 years since the National Rally was held in Wales so I hope lots of you will join us. Especially those of you in Wales and the West Midlands as we are organising the event with you in mind. Invitations have been sent out to many BMC & BL car clubs and lots of other clubs representing many different makes and models. We already have entries from the North east Branch of the M.M.O.C. and one from the Yorvik branch. Plus entries from the Austin Counties Car Club and Marina O.C. and Landcrab club. So we are hoping for a really big and varied display of classic cars. It is only 80 very scenic miles from Birmingham and 75 equally scenic miles from Chester to Tywyn. The run from the South up through Wales is just breathtaking and if you are coming from the South West it is about 100 miles from the Severn Bridge. Please do not hesitate to contact me ( 01653 693183 ) if you require any further details. The C.O.O.C look forward to seeing you in Wales. Steve Turner Back to the Press Releases page. |
