Ok I know this has been covered before but to save me hunting for it can any one just run by me the procedure for taxing a 1940s car that’s on SORN that no longer needs an MOT what forms etc. Thanks in advance guys, Steve

You will need to have insurance and as far as I know that's it..a good post office will be aware of the change and if you have a current V5c you should get a tax disc. You can also take the V5c and insurance document to your local DVLA office (but do it soon as they may be closed from October)

You might also need a form V112,which you can print off from here;
http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum_dg/groups/dg_digitalassets/@dg/@en/@motor/documents/digitalasset/dg_065277.pdf
I recently had to do this with one of my old AJS trials bikes.

I have just taxed my 1932 BSA Trike, I took the insurance note and the renewal notice and the clerk just handed over a tax disc.

Might be different if the vehicle is on SORN , does any one know?

Regards Kels.

Got the tax disc today no prob, just down loaded and printed the V112 form and took it along with the insurance and log book. The lady at the counter gave it all a quick glance and issued the disc - took all of two mins. Went home to put the disc in the car and found that when I run it up last night I left the interior light on and the battery was a bit flat so had to give it a quick charge then took it out for run this afternoon. All's well with the world again thanks for the help guys.

I taxed my 1947 Minx online, I took out the insurance policy a few days beforehand. Filled out one form for the tax online and the disc was with me a couple days later.
