Hi -

I'm overhauling my 1956 Cresta engine, and have noticed some pitting on the exhaust valve stems, though the valve seat area seems to be Ok.

Should I replace the valves which have this kind of pitting ?

Hi Ross,

I don't think the pitting will make your stems any more likely to fracture than the collett grooves and I don't think they will noticably affect the rate of oil passage down the stems so my advice would be just to fit them.

Peter
