A question has been posted on a triumph forum about bleeding brakes.

Part of the query is
Quote:
Looking to the bleeding nipples there is no hole to let the oil come out like in the modern cars.
There is a ball between the nipple and the cylinder body and the thread on the nipple has a channel to let the oil flow out when opened. When you screw the nipple in it pushes the ball against the cylinder body and stops the flow.
The problem is that with this type of nipple i don't know how to bleed because it can not be done in the normal way with a bleeding hose dived in a cup of fluid...

Never seen or heard of this type myself, anyone else seen them?

Girling I guess, from the early 1950s. Riley RMs had this system when new.
Easiest way is to buy bleed nipples with conical noses and replace the flatnose/ball bearing type. Do the replacement one cylinder at a time and you can use the pressurised hydraulic fluid to force the ball bearing out.

There were some nipples sold in the past that had a ball valve within them to allow single handed bleeding. Could be a set has been fitted to the car as an improvement by a previous owner.
