The PO had thrown out the ID plate when he did that modification. I bought a new plate from MiniSport that I'll put on before inspection.

Yep, several Corvairs in Europe. Some were originally assembled in Belgium, others have been taken over recently.

Hi again, no I wasnt referring to the ID plate, it was the body number, I was after.

those 2 things are completly different, and you cant buy the body no Sad

thats why its so important to save the original.

Its a 15 (app?) centimeters long thin plate, welded to the slam panel.

Yes and GM also had an assembly line here in Denmark, but I think Tina imported her Corvair from USA.

Not sure what a slam panel. I have a small plate with numbers on the inside left front fender above the radiator slots. About the width of 3 slots. It has a FE1969545 stamped on it.

That's the only number I've ever found.

Slam panel is the top of front center piece, where the bonnet locks into.

You found the FE = Front End part no Cool this can be used to date the car. The body no looks the same (only longer) .

I hope the modern car in your last pic is not your wifes, in that condition (dusty) you might be getting a telling of...

No, that is in the body shop.

And, no plates at all on the stretched out front panel. He cut it down the sides, bent it out, and hinged it from the lower front.

Got my new bushings and knuckles from the UK, so I took a few minutes to assemble the rear suspension

Of course I had to polish the trumpets (red reflection from my overalls)

Then realized I had forgotten to inspect and order wheel bearings. After looking at these, I placed the next order with Mini Sport. Should have them in a couple of weeks.

Still waiting on my engine from Chile.

Actually have something to report. I temporarily gave up on waiting for my engine, and bought a new front clip in Iquique, Chile. I got some of it quickly and set out to prepare it.

Now the rest of it has arrived, but I'm not in Tarija, just got pictures to report. Monday my body guy will start grafting the 94 Saloon front to the 75 pickup rear. My brother-in-law promises pictures daily.

That will give me the 1300cc engine, automatic transmission, AC, roll-up windows, etc. I'll sell the 8" brakes that came on the 94 and use the 7.4" Cooper-S set I bought originally. Still have to figure out how to route the AC with the wood dash I bought from MiniSport, but that is minor at this point.
Also, since the front clip came with the adjusta-rides, I ordered a set for the back that should be here soon.

I'll be there in a couple of weeks to take a good look at the engine and see what I need to order so I can get it going.

And locally I picked up a comfortable set of Toyota seats that I will reupholster with the door panels. Looks like the picture name is too long to display automatically, but it is on my site with more shots.

Coming along well, are you going to convert to exterior door hinges, and sliding windows?

The plan is rollup windows and the hidden hinges. I had been trying to figure out how to put roll up windows on the old doors, but that looked difficult.

Now it starts looking like a pickup again. All the parts are aligned, maybe tomorrow we will start welding things together.

Here is a little more, showing how the inside of the door frame looks on the finished side, and how the roof corners are modified to accept the window frame of the roll up doors.

And now I have the parts to assemble the engine. This all came in one nicely packed box from the UK (48 hours). Bearings, rings, water pump, thermostat, kit to convert to double timing chain and tensioner, alloy valve cover, complete set of gaskets, etc. Also picked up a set of 12 pt sockets since that is what the rods are assembled with, and large sockets, as I had to borrow 1 1/2" and other large sizes to get it all apart.

Now it's back to Bolivia where I hope to get to Tarija by the end of the month and start the assembly.

The bad news is I won't be able to finish the engine, as when I got the cam out I found the lifters were badly pitted. So another order is in to Mini Sport.

But all is not lost, as I got a lot done in prepping and painting

The cylinders just needed a little honing

Lots of carbon in the ring grooves

I found a close match to the original 1300 cc engine en polyurethane

Then finished cleaning up the injectors

Some friends need parts, so I stripped the old shell

Body shop is progressing. Not real easy putting the 94 front on the 75 rear, as the widths and shapes are different, as are the indents in the frame.

That's some really nice work. It looks like a classic labour of love.
