Hello

My car failed the portuguese equivalent mot due to steering wheel play (45°- 1/Cool.

The steering box is of the worm And nut type And the nut is not new anymore.. Thats the reason for the play On the steering wheel .

Theres any trick to solve this as i can find a new nut neither no one to rebuild it. I filled the box with grease but the gap Didnt reduced..

Is there any adjustment available on the box itself? sometimes there is an adjusting screw which can be altered, after loosening a lock-nut.

A very small amount of play gets magnified by the gearing to quite a lot of steering wheel movement. I found that most of the play on mine was not on the thread but where the peg interfaces with the nut. You can take the peg out and turn it through 90 degrees and that removes quite a lot of play.
