I have a 1934 Humber Snipe with a de Normanville transmission. What oil should I use and has anybody one of the transmissions in use as I would like to have a talk about this box.

I will be taking it to the East Lanc's Railway meeting on Sept 8th. Thanks for the compliments but would still love to talk to anybody that has a vehicle with a de Normanville box or is this now the only one on the road? _________________ Peter |

Hi Peter,
Rootes and Laycock normally specify engine oil for their gearboxes.

Hi, sorry I'm late to this, I have a 1931 Humber Snipe & Pullman handbook which states
Engine Oil,
(summer) Vacuum BB, Castrol XL, Shell Triple,
(winter) Vacuum A, Castrol AA, Shell Double.
Gearbox, (summer/winter) Vacuum BB, Castrol XL, Shell Triple.
So the same as Peter said, Summer weight engine oil for the gearbox in 1931 all seasons. |
