Some of the auto electrical suppliers used to sell it but I can't find any now. This describes itself as clear red lacquer.

I've used a brand called Pebeo Vitrea 160 glass paint. It should be available in good craft/hobby shops or http://www.craftcellar.co.uk/contents/en-uk/d56_vitrea_160.html#.UfKfx51wbmI. I found Pepper Red to be a good colour.

As 47Jag says, the Pebeo Vitrea glass paint is excellent- take it from a retired hobby/art shop owner. You can also use Tamiya model paint, look for the clear colours- red, amber- there is also a blue but I doubt if you would need that.
