New(ish) member here. Just thought I'd add a picture of Mabel, my 1960 Riley 1.5.
Apparently it was a complete wreck at one time and I've a copy of the advert from the previous owner that shows it's fit for restoration only. A lot of work has been done and as ever there's still more to do. Headlining and other bits of trimming are to be done in the next couple of weeks provided I can get the carbs sorted first. Pumping out petrol all over the drive and only running on 2/3 pots. That should be sorted shortly. Hopefully, it's just a combination of needles, floats and jets unless the dreaded ethanol has taken it's toll.
It's the bodywork that lets her down as the previous respray wasn't the best. Not sure whether to try and make good or start again. It'll come down to cost and more than likely it'll just have to be a work in progress project.
Next year the plan (which is always subject to change) is to take/drive Mabel down to South West France for a few months.
I've researched the history of the car and may well post this later. I find the history of cars fascinating and I'm always amazed at how much can be found out.

Or a combination of all I've described. In for a penny and in for a pound might as well look at all possible problems/solutions.
Yup, it is a nice car but being BMC the tin worm is never that far away. Not sure if it came as standard or was an added extra. _________________ Graham

If you've got any details of the Riley 1.5 he had i.e. registration number, what happened to it (even if scrapped) then I can pass these on to the Riley 1.5 archivist who is trying to compile a history of all cars produced. It'll never be completed but slowly but surely the history will build. _________________ Graham

Vitesse, the red 1.5 one you can see on Imageshack (called Tom as in TOMato) is the car I had previously. For a couple of weeks I had two in the drive. Now that was just being greedy but it was just a questions of maths. The red 'un needed a fair amount of money being spent on it and has now gone to a good home whereas the grey one (Mabel) was obtained for not a lot more but was more or less as complete a car as I want. I'll never want to have a concours type car as I'd prefer something I can use on a daily basis along with all the wear and tear that you get in using a car this way. _________________ Graham

So it turns out a new float was required. One had already been previously replaced and the other was now full of petrol. So, that's an easy fix then......or should have been. Off down the road for a drive. Guess what.....petrol piddling out again and the car is more or less unusable again. Back to the drawing board. Still at least I've got a nice new float. Further updates to follow. What is it with these cars? _________________ Graham

So, I've managed to prang my Riley 1.5 out here in France. Quite badly at that. Parts needed are being sourced but some are harder to source than others.
I'm looking for the passenger side suspension top arm i.e. the bit that is attached to the damper at one end and then disappears through the inner wing and attaches itself to the swivel pin.
Anybody got one or any ideas on where one may sourced would be great.
Failing getting one of these which has somehow become bent in the accident will mean having the original taken off and heated in a local forge and bent back into shape. A replacement part just seems the easier option though. _________________ Graham

Kevin2036.....no the car is still in France (home is Bristol) and the intention is to use classic car specialists out here to get Mabel up and running again in due course. There's a great clued up mechanic I'm using and I've had recommended and subsequently qualified by a third party a bodyshop chappie that apparently works wonders on getting a pile of rusty dust looking fabulous. Just wish I hadn't been such a dispstick in causing the prang in the first place.
Rick, contact details out here in France are (from the UK) 0033 5 55 58 84 06.
Here's a pic
