Wayne,
Speaking from personal experience they can be rot boxes. The rear end seems to be sitting low which could simply be tired springs but the chassis do get rot in the rear end. The inner rear wings are quite complex stampings and are very prone to rot as are the door bottoms, cills and door pillars. I had a 2 1/2 litre (same body)back in 1960 and the doors were rotten then. You will really need to go and have a good look at this car. Send me your e-mail address in a PM and I'll forward some pics. of mine and what to expect/look for. I can't advise on money though, it's down to how much you really want the car.

Doesn't look too bad to me. It has a pretty good interior which is a major plus and it has its original registration, another big plus.
The car looks pretty complete and unmessed with too. The photos are dreadful but they all go at the door bottoms.
Expect to see corrosion where the inner rear wings meet the outer wings.
My guess would be £7k to £8.5. I have had experience of selling both a very much better 1½ litre and one that was a project and not as complete as this car. Both went on eBay in that price range but that's a few years ago.
Peter
The better car..
The worse/incomplete car..

I love the look of these Jags, won't ever be able to afford a decent one though. |

the photos of the restored car has made my mind up ,my son also liked the look of it .ive said he can have a budget of £15,000 to buy the car and any parts needed .on the condition he does as much of the work himself with a bit of advice and help if needed ,i dont know much about these cars so i will probably need some advice ,i have put £25,000 aside as i think this is more realistic figure than £15,000 ,but he dosent know that .wayne |

Its a great looking project and I think what will make the real difference is your son has your backup and support, having someone else to turn to when the project hits lows which it inevitable will can be the difference that makes or brakes a project. Good luck. Steve _________________ If the world didn't suck we'd all fall off |

my son is only 13 but is willing to learn ,hes helped on various projects ,but i agree he may get disheartened with such a big project. ,he has worked on quite big jobs with me and he is getting good at using an english wheel and makes a good job most of the time ,we will work together but i will let him take the lead .ive told him that theres no rush to get it finished ,but i know he will be impatient ,wayne |
