Hi Andy,

I'm sorry but I'm not really familiar with SSII rear axles but test it for ratio and check against my previous post.

Measure your spring lengths too.

Peter

I am fairly sure the rear axle is from a Wolsley Hornet as are the 12 inch hydraulic drum brakes. I have seen pictures posted on the Triple M register of the brakes and they are exactly the same as mine. I also found a restoration flickr library which shows a Wolsley rear axle which is also spot on for mine.
It would seem the front axle is still SSII/Standard and not Wolsley. All I need now is to identify the steering box which so far has no markings visible.

Hi Andy,

Your steering box looks very like a Burman Douglas to me.

Hi Andy,

Yes, they are very common and most of the SSs and some of the Standards used them.

All I need now is a nice tall radiator shell and rad and long bonnet. Anyone got one suitable gathering dust and need some one to take it off their hands I'm yer man. I will even take it away for free rather than insult you with money Wink

Peter,
Sorry haven't been on here a lot. Project moving on slowly I have repaired the chassis and painted in with anti-rust now in the process of painting with red oxide then chassis paint, black of course. Then I will strip and paint axles/brake hubs etc.
Found a useful site to buy the brakes/wheel cylinders called Rockauto much cheaper even with delivery etc from the USA.

Holy thread resurrection. Found a chassis number 134632 which puts it in the 1932 era. I now have restored the front axle nearly finished the rear axle. Obtained an alloy bonnet from a Lagonda rapier and front valance for the dumb irons. I also have four TR5 spoked wheels, not 18 inch but they look quite good. Still a mountain to climb. I have been told by someone knowledgeable that its not an SS11 but I feel he is assessing it against a completely intact chassis which mine is not. I think when this was made up as a kit car they stamped the chassis number onto the chassis rail which seemed to irk the expert because he said SS never did that. I know they didn't but thats not a reason to doubt that it started life as one. Different times and all that:)
