All the info I can find for wiring a dynamo has the battery connected to the A terminal, Ignition/Switched electrics from A1, the field cable to F, D to the distribution and E obviously to earth/ground.
However, my truck's wiring is all over the place, A and A1 seem reversed - does this matter?
and the field cable would seem to be connected to D (and not F) with a cable from the F terminal going to a charging light. Would this even work.
What the effect of swapping the cables over be? Is there a risk to 'correcting' the layout?
I'm also looking to connect an ammeter and could do with some guidance. _________________ C'est seulement en faisant quelque chose que en devient quelqu'un |

It's easiest to think of the circuit in terms of "Live" and "Earth" rather than positive or negative earth.
Is this the Thames? Your description sounds like an RB106 (2 bobbin) regulator, so with the battery connected to A1 you are bypassing the cut-out.
Wire it:
A1 - ignition.
A - live from battery. Fit ammeter between battery and A.
F - field from dynamo.
D - D terminal on dynamo, also charging light back to the ignition switch.
E - earth or ground.
And it should work.........

Yep, it's the Thames.
That's exactly the 'layout' that I have found on t'internet for a Durite regulator (which is what it is), but it does seem to work now - bizarrely!
Leave as is OR change it to how it should be?
What's the worst that can happen??? _________________ C'est seulement en faisant quelque chose que en devient quelqu'un |

A joins A1 via a fuse, so the battery is now directly fused and the ignition is running through the cut-out circuit. It may not cycle the voltage properly?
For the sake of shuffling four wires, I'd set it up to standard - at least you know it's right.
Durite is OK - licence-built Lucas stuff.

Thanks Penguin,
I tried resetting all of the terminals as you and the info I found online suggested, battery seems constant at 13 volt when the engine isn't running, drops to 12 v when it is, confusingly........my ammeter shows load, but no charge and the charge light stays lit when the ignition is on.
With the engine running there is no potential between either the D or F terminal on the dynamo and ground at either the dynamo itself or the regulator - surely their should be? Anyone got any thoughts? _________________ C'est seulement en faisant quelque chose que en devient quelqu'un |
