Hi Jason.

I have admired your work since the first days of "Little Mary Anne".

Here is one of several sites that discuss bending copper pipe.

http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Bend-Copper-Pipe-and-Tubing-without-Crushin/

When I started work (1962) in the coal industry, I saw several of the "old hands" making copper pipes for hydraulics. They too used salt, because it would flush out with hot water and then hot oil, rather than risk the odd grain of sand getting into somewhere it shouldn't.

As for rotating engine stands, I had the same problem with some large SUV engines, but got around it by extending the legs and fitting an upright to carry the load opposite the original mount.

Thanks Peter, I'll try that with the salt.

so here's the latest Alvis news....

Yesterday I dropped my clutch off for re-lining, here's the company I used (based in Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire)
www.saftek.co.uk

today, I went to collect it....

so this afternoon I got on with re-fitting it to the flywheel.....

and also made the crankcase breather pipe a bit longer/taller....

when the engine is back in the car I may connect it to an oil catch can....just in case Smile

so the next job will be getting it back in the car....but I don't know when, I was hoping to do it this weekend but I may end up having to work instead.

I'll get another update up as soon as I get some more done.

so I spent Monday and yesterday connecting all the wiring back up, putting oil and water in and charging the battery.......so when I finish work today, I'll be firing it up and hopefully taking her for a drive Wink

Got the Alvis fired up yesterday and out for a 5 mile drive......she's a bit smoky but I'm hoping that its down to the new piston rings needing bedding in.
apart from the smoke, she ran lovely with no problems, she has more power and the engine is a lot quieter.

so all in all I'm very happy and if the smoke stops when the rings are bedded in, I'll be even happier.

I'll get a video of her running at the weekend.

so the next job....not on the Alvis.....on the Fiat cinquecento.......
there's some bad bubbles appeared in the paint above the rear bumper......you guessed it.....rust.....I'll get some pics up on my Fiat thread later.

well done, hopefully a few nice gentle miles will get those rings bedded in nicely, probably a bit of smoke due to the rebuild process anyways..soon burns off

cheers Kevin, I took the Alvis out again yesterday and did another 5 miles and the smoke isn't as bad but still noticeable.
I'm confident it will go once the rings are bedded.

no Alvising this weekend though.....too busy with the Fiat Sad
