Wow - fantastic indeed. I have always loved the styling of those Commers.
Great to hear it has found a sympathetic owner. _________________ a car stops being fun when it becomes an investment |

Fantastic find Rick - are you now the only serial collector of classic race car transporters?
Look forward to progress but if it takes as long as the Dodge I will be well into my eighties before I can see it! _________________ Brian

It may be a candidate for doing the bits of bodywork that are required, and oily-ragging the rest, time will tell. It shouldn't need the level of work that jolly green giant #1 needed .... in theory. The future for the Westminster isn't looking as optimistic sadly.

Can I ask why not?
It looks horrible now with all that grime but there is no visible rust. If it is not rusted in a bad way then it deserves to survive.
If it is scrap can I have the front wings
Probably will end up as a banger _________________ a car stops being fun when it becomes an investment |

There was a fair bit of rot around the car, the driver's side was particularly rusty - maybe saveable, but I believe someone (a Healey owner & racer) has bought it for the engine.

The Commer is a lovely find Rick. I presume it has the upright 6 cylinder petrol or has a Perkins conversion? |

Hi, it has a straight six ohv Commer/Humber engine, I think a replacement for the sidevalve that it probably began life with.

Very interesting Commer, Rick. I'm glad it is no longer a Full Stop! It will be fascinating to see how the restoration progresses. You are a bold man taking on another oversize job! _________________ Dane- roverdriver but not a Viking. |

The story can be found at the link posted in the first post (this one: http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/commer-transporter.htm), basically there was mention and a tiny photo of it posted on another forum (they do exist apparently) a couple of years ago. I've kept tabs on it from afar since then. When I heard through the grapevine that many cars at the farm were going for the chop, I got in touch with the owner's son once again.
Dave - yes, things are in motion on that front
