Recent news regarding this year's NEC bash:

LANCASTER INSURANCE CLASSIC MOTOR SHOW
BRINGS CLASSICS ON THE BIG SCREEN TO LIFE.



This year’s Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, held from November 14th to 16th at Birmingham’s NEC, has chosen ‘The Big Screen’ as its clubs theme for 2014.

As well as iconic TV and movie star cars, including those scene stealers from the TV motoring shows, the organisers are encouraging the clubs to go much broader than that with famous posters, billboards and adverts of cars launched in huge billboard or ‘big screen’ campaigns.

So clubs could perhaps recreate a famous film poster with a club stand, or maybe give over the entire stand to a TV show or advert that featured its chosen car – there’s huge scope for clubs to really get creative. The theme is open to interpretation, perhaps displaying a car that boasts a ‘big screen’ price or even just car with an extra-large windscreen! Whatever it may be, all ideas are welcome.

Event Director Dan Nwaokolo said: “We’re really excited by the theme for this year’s show. There are so many great instances where motoring has appeared on the big screen, be it TV, film, and in adverts. The possibilities are endless and we can’t wait to see how the clubs interpret this year’s theme.

“There’s also an influx of classic motoring TV shows at present, with more to come, so it will be great for enthusiasts to get to see those cars restored on the small screen at close proximity, if only to reassure them of the quality of the work carried out. The chance to inspect these cars and talk to the stars of the shows will be fantastic for our visitors.”

Show sponsor Lancaster Insurance is similarly enthused by this year’s theme, adding: “We are proud to be the headline sponsor of the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show for the second year running, and this year celebrate 30 years of providing classic car insurance.

“‘The Big Screen’ evokes images of escapism, splendour and glamour and will provide exhibitors with the perfect platform to bring out the ‘star quality’ in every car. "

“Lancaster Insurance was born in 1984, when great films like Beverly Hills Cop, Indiana Jones and Ghostbusters were topping the billboards. To celebrate this milestone, it only seemed right that our stand should be inspired by the ‘80s. We’re planning on taking visitors Back to the Future with some serious blasts from the past!”

Sadly I'm not able to go as I'm nearing the end of eight weeks of radiotherapy - really wish I could as we have three of the 1934 Le Mans works Rileys on our club stand....

I didn't take a camera - too frustrating trying to walk around the show avoiding the hordes of dawdlers, never mind trying to get enough space to take decent photos. That aside, I spent most of the day in the autojumble, with a quick trip out to see 'my' club stand.

I went yesterday. It was absolutely rammed, and the dawdlers were indeed so annoying! Didn't really manage to get round much other than the BMC stands and the autojumble, sadly. I did take my camera but spent so long talking to people and looking at cars I forgot to take any pictures.

I didn't get down there in the end, maybe next year (on the Friday I think).

I didn't take a camera either, as unless positioned right in front of the vehicle you end up blocking busy gangways Sad

Most folk seem to have the same conclusion, as the photo's that were being taken were generally with phones.
We got there 9:15 on the Saturday, the first hour was reasonably quiet, but then it just filled up.

Is Friday quieter?

Friday was quieter (according to the chaps on our club stand), and by design I think - it's more expensive to get in, and the discount codes don't work for that day.

LANCASTER INSURANCE CLASSIC MOTOR SHOW’S BIG SCREEN CELEBRATIONS PROVE TO BE A BLOCKBUSTER

Lights, camera, action! The Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show’s Big Screen theme proved to be a blockbuster this weekend as 65,000 enthusiasts headed to Birmingham’s NEC. With visitor number inline with 2013’s record breaking show, the organisers are planning to move the show to even bigger halls next year.

Dan Nwaokolo, Event Director: “Its been another amazing weekend, and a huge thanks to all the clubs for their hard work and dedication that makes this Europe’s biggest classic motoring club event. Thanks also to Lancaster Insurance, all the sponsors, exhibitors and contributors for showcasing the strength of the UK classic car market.

“For 2015, such is the demand from clubs and the industry, we’re going to make the show even bigger by moving across to the biggest halls the NEC has to offer. This will expand the show to over 93,000 square metres (currently 82,000) so we can ensure more marques and clubs can join us."

The show managed to squeeze in more than the expected 1,700 classic cars with over 1,800 commemorative display stickers handed out to go on the marques being showcased by the 250 clubs.

Talking of showcases, the Meguiar’s Club Showcase once again proved to be a highlight of the show. Adrian Evans and his stunning 1969 Ford Cortina Mk2 1600E were announced as the overall winners on Sunday afternoon.

There were also celebrations on the Wheeler Dealer Live Stage, where Mike Brewer, Edd China, and a team of experts not only restored a 1965 VW Beetle but also transformed it into a tribute to the iconic movie car ‘Herbie The Love Bug’. The car was then presented to winner Lee Mellor from Nottingham.

Motoring presenter Quentin Willson also joined the show team this year as the host of the brand new Classic Club Stage, sponsored by Motoriety.co.uk, which featured expert seminars and classic motoring advice as well as the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Club’s Motormind Quiz.

Silverstone Auctions had a NEC record breaking sale, with £4million of sales on the hammer and an 82 per cent sale rate. Celebrities Steve Coogan, Theo Paphitis and Lord David Steel were amongst the famous faces in the auction hall.

Stars of the show however were as always the cars. The stunning D-Type and ‘Car Zero’, the new E-type prototype drew a huge crowd to the mammoth Jaguar Heritage stand, while at the other end of the hall, the 40th anniversary display of freshly restored Porsche Turbos and Targas had everyone talking.

Richard Morley, Operations Director for headline sponsor Lancaster Insurance, said: “It was an incredible honour for us to be headline sponsor of the biggest classic car show in the UK. We’ve loved seeing so many of our car club partners, meeting fellow enthusiasts and, of course, seeing an extraordinary display of classics in one arena. The show was a testament to the wonderful industry we work in and we cannot wait for next year!”
