Just signed up to the forum and thought I should post some pics of my Austin 10. Hopefully I can learn a lot from forum members, the other classic I own is a Rover P6B which has been in my care for about 27 years.

The Austin a 1933 built car I have not owned for so long.
It had a nut and bolt restoration in 2009 but not by me, god knows how much they spent on the restoration but there is nowhere that does not look like it has just come off the production line other than age related marks in the glass.

A very appropriate registration too! Good to see another pre-war Austin owner joining up, there are a few forum-ers with 10/4s in their garages now.

Do you know any of its early history?

Unfortunately not a lot, I bought it from a deceased estate so any of its prior info is pretty much lost to me.
All I really know is that it was registered in 1974 so it was likely restored at that time.
Then in Wellington NZ in 2009 it had a full restoration.
I guess that the number plate probably reflects it first registration in NZ however looking at the rest of the car it looks to be either late 32 or 33, and given the dates on all the car window glass are 1933 I would imagine it was a 1933 build.
The bumpers don't quite look the part but who knows what has occurred in the last 81 years, probably been replaced sometime in its distant past and given the relative scarcity of the early cars with split bumpers it probably got some other later models.
It has a VAR sticker on the glass and not a very new one at that so I hope at a later date I can find a little more of its history from some other NZ VAR members ( I am a VAR member also)

Hi
Difficult to be certain with the head on view and the side view with the doors open, but it looks like a narrow body with more exposure of the tops of the rear wings. so I thinkl that also points at 32/33 rather than 34.

Also if it was kit or whole vehicle imported as new, then it could well have left England a long time before being sold in NZ.

That is pretty much my conclusion to for the same reasons.
Interestingly the car has actually been registered as 1935 Rolling Eyes I would hazard to guess that information was less accessible back in 1974 than in 2014.... The internet at work I guess Very Happy

Would it have gone to NZ as a complete car, or as a knocked-down kit of parts to be assembled locally?

The Austin Ten Drivers Club website has a useful section on how to identify what year your car is. They may also be able to help you with its age, past history etc. if you have a chassis number.

Worth joining up too, if you haven't already. There is quite a body of technical knowledge there and I think that there are a few NZ members .
