So, the missus's Wolseley 1500 today, temp guage crawled up to the top , sat in the 'H' zone and stayed there. Dropped a little if coasting downhill foot of the throttle. Got her back to the garage, gauge still in the 'H' , turned off but the engine just didn't seem hot. Both top and bottom hoses nice n warm but not blisteringly hot, No bubbly, tinking hot sounds, no massive radiant heat, engine running fine.
So, I'm wondering, is the temperature sender a known weakness on B-series motors? |

Yup. Early form of transducer/thermistor (resistance varies with temperature), so probably served its time. If you can, get a replacement with a "button" top rather than the rivetted spade terminal. Seems to be a bit more reliable and no spurious resistance when the spade starts to work loose against the rivet. MGA sender is a straight replacement.
Check the cooling system anyway......
