I should have lift off tomorrow. I just need to fill the engine up with some oil and tightened up the exhaust.

So hopefully another video if all goes to plan.

I have to try it Kev just to see how much difference it makes. It's such a simple job on the 500. It's effectively held in place by 3 bolts. Off to try and bench test it now. Very Happy

As promised. The engine test carried out today and it started really well considering it has been stripped down and the crankshaft was the only thing that wasn't removed.

I did get the statuary mouth full of petrol siphoning it down to the fuel pump.

All the oil leaks appear to have been resolved. It did have a bit of a mind of its own sliding around on the towel it was resting on. Yet again it was in gear as it is a real pig to get in neutral without having all the linkage in place to get the extra leverage required.

It has the later wasted spark electronic ignition from the later Cinquecento so no distibutor, which means the timing is pretty bulletproof as you can't adjust it. Also it is wasted spark you can't even get the HT leads the wrong way round.

You will have to forgive my where's Wally look but it was cold.Surprised

Music to my ears and I should know, I have had one running three feet behind me all day.

Sad to report, Tony, the author of this thread, died earlier this year from an illness unrelated to Covid 19. I only discovered that because we had kept in touch via email and social media...the social media messages ended abruptly and there followed a number of sympathetic comments on his Facebook page.

On another old car forum there is another distinctive and likeable man who stopped posting last year and I fear the worst with him too.

It's quite sad how these things are left adrift; but it can't be expected that the relatives left behind will know all that someone has been signed up to and tying up those loose ends will be the very last thing that should concern them.

I went to see Tony and his car on one occasion....it is superbly finished. He didn't get much use from it in comparison with me, but he said that the restoration was the part he got the biggest kick from. I'm sure the car will resurface one day and it is a great perpetual tribute to a lovely man.

Very sad indeed for the relatives and friends but on the bright side he must have been happy with the work he'd done on the car.
