I am going to upgrade to a four speed gearbox on the DLM.
At the moment it has had a change from the e93a to a 100e engine with an e93a gearbox.

I aquired a gearbox that I was informed is a Morris 8 box.

I need a top cover and gearlever for it.

Anyway I started to clean it this morning and noticed that the casting figures might not be Morris.
The bellhousing bolt holes match the ford. rear mounting will need one fabricating.

Did all Morris gearboxes have 'MOWOG' cast on them.

The text is a series of numbers with W below them and below that what looks like a date.

Can anyone ID by these photos please

Thanks Dave

Yes I agree the same,

Always thought Morris part had MOWOG on them that is what made me ask.

Be the first gearbox I'll have stripped and rebuilt, looking forward to the challenge.
Any hidden surprises to watch out for, I have some scans from a few Morris workshop manuals.

again thanks
Roger

Hi Roger

They are pretty straight forward lumps to overhaul ! things to look out for:

To dismantle the box the lay gear has to be dropped by completely removing the layshaft, otherwise the mainshaft can't be removed, reverse for re assembly.

The layshafts are often badly worn, but can be replaced by purchasing some 5/8" ground steel shafting and drilling oilways preferably in a lathe but could be done in a drill press.

If you use a sealed bearing in the rear its aids oil retention ( the rear original has a scroll and felt washer)

A lip seal can be fitted to the input shaft with a little bit of machining to the front cover, again originally there is only a scroll.

finally here is a list of the bearings, all are available from any of the on line bearing suppliers:

Input shaft drive gear, Morris part number ;X15625 :
LJ1NR Imperial Open Snap Ring Type Open Deep Groove Ball Bearing 1x2-1/4x5/8 inch Also known asRLS8NR

Main shaft front, Morris Part number; X15625:
LJ1NR Imperial Open Snap Ring Type Open Deep Groove Ball Bearing 1x2-1/4x5/8 inch Also known asRLS8NR

Main shaft rear, Morris part number; QA11033:
6205, Metal Shielded Deep Groove Ball Bearing 25x52x15mm consider replacing with 62052RS for better oil sealing.

Layshaft bush (x2) Morris part number X15523:
AI1012-20 Oil Filled Bronze Plain Bush 5/8x3/4x1-1/4 inch

Clutch pivot shaft (x2) Morris part number X19325:
AI1012-16 Oil Filled Bronze Plain Bush 5/8x3/4x1 inch

Input shaft spigot bush, Morris part number X15075:
AI0810-16 Oil Filled Bronze Plain Bush 1/2x5/8x1 inch

Reverse gear bush, Morris part number X17342. Originally a single bush, now difficult to source so substitute 2 shorter bushes:
AI1012-16 Oil Filled Bronze Plain Bush 5/8x3/4x1 inch

Shout if you need any help!

Cheers

Dave

I've moved this over to the Morris category, now the 'box has been id'd. Hope that's ok Roger Smile

Thanks again BJ

Another copy and pasted added to my DLM HDD.

I have an exploded gearbox image from the hand book and it seems to be the same, numbers and parts match to your list.
