Hi
My fathers 2nd car was one of those.
Does it have the quick drop drivers window instead of having tyo wind it down?
I always wondered why other manufacturers didn't use a similar system. _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

Hi Steve,
Your Vauxhall looks to be in pretty good condition. The good leather work is a real bonus. Although I'm in the conservation camp I wouldn't conserve non-orginal parts. I'd be inclined to replicate the original sliding roof and windscreen frame.
I'm not too familiar with Vauxhalls but I think the roof will have been of joinery and fabric construction and you'd be able to get the original design from the Vauxhall club. http://www.voc1903-57.co.uk/
I think the screen frame is just missing a filler strip and the club could probably help with a source.

I love the look of these bigger pre-war Vauxhalls. Shame you don't see many about. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

Hi
Just normal wind down windows in this one, not sure yet about the quart lights they are seized up. |

Would it have had chrome flutes on the bonnet, and rad surround, originally? I have a set somewhere from a pre- or post-war 14, although whether they're the same length I don't know. Laying my hands on them might take a little while

PS I'll move this into the Your Cars ... category if that's ok, it'll make finding the thread again in future a little easier. |
Hi Rick, I dont think rad surround should be chrome on this model but yes she would have had chrome flutes. I would love to see the original flutes. Do you think they took them off for ww2 when they blacked out the headlights? |

It's possible that the flutes may have been removed during WW2, although if the lamp shells have been repainted they'd probably have done the same with the flutes. I'll see if I can find the ones I have, and take a few measurements if you like?

Hi Steve. The rear seat being of a different colour may not bother you but I would want it all to match. There is a good chance that you could find one from a donor car but if not, a good leather repair specialist would be able to make it look original. You could, of course, try painting it yourself and have fun doing it.
On a more practical level, the DX was always a tricky car to keep on the road, even when they were current. In particular, there were two different types of independent suspension; one with combined torsion bars and tubes as fitted to the 10, 12, 14 and 25 hp models and the other with enclosed coil springs as fitted to the 12 and 14 hp "light six" models; the famous Dubonnet "knee action ride". The system was not very durable and prone to leakage but kept "topped up" all should be well.
Special "Britool" tools are required to service/overhaul either system, however, it may be worth enquiring with your club to see if they can locate the special tools, if required.
If I can assist with the DX, I will be more than happy to do so. |

Thanks
I have been very lucky so far, mechanically she is sound.
The only oil seal that needs looking at is drive shaft for the windscreen whippers
She does have the "knee action ride"
I think im going to get someone to sort out the sunroof and headlining next.
