Hi,Peter, that car of Mr Harper's probably cost more than my house!
Anyway, it's too late now,the deed is done:-

Looks good John and will be a lot nicer to drive than Harper's Rapier.

Was it a local find?

Hi Rick, advertised by a dealer in Jersey:- turned out the car was from a collection in Guernsey:- then it was at said dealers store/workshop in East Chelborough about 40 mls from Bristol, where it still is at present. Nice dealer has kindly agreed to hold it there for me until I make arrangements to collect it. I'm having to try & juggle travel with the other dealer coming from East Sussex to collect the Zephyr. Zephyr left today to travel to Wisborough Green on the back of a Brimec. To my surprise I wasn't bothered - guess I'd had it long enough & was due for a change. Ah well, cheers,JD. _________________ 1958 Ford Zephyr Mk2 Convertible

Nice Sceptre it's in lovely condition.
Mine as Rick mentioned is the Hunter 1500 mark 2, the model that replaced the arrow shaped minx in the line up and represents the other end of the scale to your Sceptre.
I've seen one just like yours, same colour but with original wheels and trims instead and it was quite plush inside! |

Hi Bob, yes, been here a while. I persuaded the guys(Milestone Classics) who were collecting the Zephyr, with a few folding pounds, to bring it up for me.
Glad I didn't drive it up when I saw the perished tyre sidewalls. It came from a collection & has obviously been standing about for a while. Just in the process of going through it mechanically plus fitting some bits not really necessary but wanted by me. Ordered safety parts(brakes) today so I'll know it's safe - front discs, calipers etc ready for bin. Keeps me out of mischief. They actually bought my pals Sunbeam Alpine too so it went on the truck & they drove the Zephyr home, 515 miles & never missed a beat. Said he never even felt tired, All the best,JD. _________________ 1958 Ford Zephyr Mk2 Convertible

Speedy spares is a good source for Rootes cars.
I've bought loads of stuff from them, very good service and the parts are very good quality too! |

Humber MOTd on Monday with no advisories. So it should with new discs, calipers, pads, flex pipes on the front, new brake shoes, wheel cylinders & flex pipes on the rear, new bottom ball joints on the front suspension. New tyres all round(well they would be) & exhaust mounts replaced. Carbs were found to be only operating on the rear one due to a loose nut on the link shaft & one carb had the wrong needle fitted. The car looked good but underneath the mechanics were pretty poor - bit like the ladies of the night with a fur coat & no drawers. The youngest tyre on the car was 1999 & they were rather perished so I am glad I didn't drive it the 400 odd miles back here. One good thing was any welding that had been done was passed by the tester. Now waxoiled underneath & just some tidying up to do under the bonnet. Going to lie down for a fortnight now, cheers,JD. _________________ 1958 Ford Zephyr Mk2 Convertible
