Morning all,

It seems like the CAA are proposing to significantly ramp up fees, and introduce new ones post-event, for anyone hoping to run an airshow.

A summary of the situation may be found here:

http://www.peoplesmosquito.org.uk/2016/02/05/potential-effects-of-caa-cap1373b-the-end-of-the-uk-airshow/

Sywell has already cancelled their 2016 show as a result

The Manchester air show organisers have also confirmed that they'll not be running a show this year either.

I wonder how the aerial elements that often feature at road vehicle events, will be affected?

Following the accident at Shoreham 2015, a few other events for 2016 have already gone from the calendar:

Llandudno
Dawlish

I suspect that the worst outcome of the Shoreham crash, (for the future of air-shows) would be "pilot error" as this is the most difficult aspect for the CAA to govern.

Whatever the outcome "inland" shows must be most at risk...

I know CPOP / CPAS have said they'll have air displays at this years show, but I guess there's plenty of time for that to change. Last year was a pretty bad in terms of incidents, with both Carfest and of course the Shoreham thing, and it would be pointless having these bodies in place if they did nothing after such things. Having said that, prior to last year, I can't remember the last time I heard (as an average member of the public without a special interest in planes or air shows) of an incident at such a show, so they might be considered isolated.

2016 looks like being a bad year for air shows alright. I am sure they will continue eventually, but will be different. Owners of classic jets are having difficulties getting them insured at all. Definitely not insurable for airshows just now, and I think flight experiences in classic Hunters, Jp's and the like are at a stand still too. I think people who have invested in old jets, are very concerned for the future.
