Hi all,

Not all barn-find cars cost six-figure amounts - this £500 A40 could be a great starter classic for someone, especially if it stays below £1k by the end of the auction.

I really like the look of cars like this, a really good starter classic and to be honest you don't see too many of them about.

Clean the windows and away you go...! I wonder when/why it was re-registered.

It was last taxed in 1991 - expiring January 1992 - and my guess is that the original registration number was transferred off sometime in 1991 or earlier.

After 1993 pre 1963 vehicles were allocated non suffix *SU, *SV, *FF, *BO and similar registration numbers following the original's transfer.
When the rules changed in the mid 1980s transferor vehicles were allocated "A" suffix numbers regardless of pre 1963 status. .
There was no age exempt Road Fund Licence or VED in 1988.

It would be a formality to apply to the DVLA for a non dating number now although what you will be given is something like *UX, XU, YX or similar which will stand out for miles as "replacement " numbers.

Still, anything would be better than XKR 651A.
