How on earth do I get this apart in order to extract the mounting plate?

Remove snap ring ( 2 ). Compress dog assembly and remove Woodruff key ( 18 ). It should all then just pull off.

Guy,

Which car is this info for? If it's the Jaguar then this diagram doesn't apply.

Looks very like an M35 starter motor to me.

It's off the Armstrrong Siddeley. I didn't see any evidence of a woodruff key in the end of the sleeve. The sleeve has flats so I assumed it threaded off the shaft. Snag is, ~I couldn't work out if it's L or R hand thread ... anyway ...it doesn't seem to want to budge?

edit ... this one was donated to me 'cos the one on the car , whilst it works has one of the bolt hole ears broken off. I though I'd swap the mounting plate of this one but it's defesated me thus far.

ah ..part 6 or 34 in the diagram may be the answer ....I would have thought I'd have spotted a pin though .....back in the garage on Monday for another look.

But I found this ...very useful ....suggests it's an M45G
