Good evening, not posted on here for a while - just been quietly watching. Now I have a situation to deal with, about 4 years ago I did a load of work on a friends early 4.2 E Type, including rebuilding the IRS. The car for various reasons has done less than a thousand miles since then. We were very disappointed and annoyed to have it fail its MOT on perished trailing arm bushes. They were new standard type arms with rubber bushes from one of the main Jaguar parts suppliers.
I had thoughts about swopping it over to poly bush type arms, but that came to a grinding halt when a friend mentioned he had similar problems on the back of a Mk2 Jaguar when some of the polybushes on the rear suspension fell apart into small granules after just two months of use.
So my question is - Who supplies good quality trailing arms/bushes for an E Type that will last a few years/miles ? Cost is not an issue, having to do them again is !

If he doesn't spot this thread, it may be worth dropping lowdrag a PM as he's got an E-Type, and has had various other Jaguars.

The bad penny returns! My car has run on polybushes for fifteen years and when we rebuilt the car in 2013 they were replaced but were still in good condition despite the punishment they had received. New ones were ordered from Barratts and I have done about 3,000 since including a couple of hill climbs. They are in fine form. Frankly not heard of disintegration problems like that. Contamination perhaps?

I've heard of "polybushes" for a Triumph application (forget which) failing quickly, but they seem to have been cheapy fake ones off fleabay or similar. Consensus seems to be that bushes from a reputable maker bought either direct or through a reputable specialist are absolutely OK to use. I would suggest that the same is probably true here.

A friend of mine put poly bushes into somewhere on a Reliant Scimitar GTC and reported that after not many miles at all, there was some significant wear on them. I don't know where he sourced them from, but he's only recently getting used to eBay and the like, so I suspect they came from a Scimitar spares place.

The failed ones came from SNG Barrett, we fitted them in the hope they would last and be a good job.I won't buy cheap rubbish, I run a Landrover garage so I'm well aware of how poor many replacement parts can be.
