I only took an interest in 1999. My first was a 1973 Mk3 Cortina. Not really a classic but relatively old then. I paid £300 for it.

I am guessing, Larry, that wasn't actually your first car. Given that we have established that you were of driving age in 1973 you may have had cars before the "First Classic Car". Let us be the judge, what dis you drive before that.

My first car may actually have been a classic car..P reg Renault 5.
6 months later an Austin 10. 3 months later a Fiat 500.

I was driving cars that were already classic within a year of passing my test.

The first car I got my sticky mitts on was the dismantled Mk3 Spitfire (1967 build), which made it 18 years old at the time and the sort of car that was appearing in classic mags at the time.

The A40 Mk1 followed on shortly after, and it was the Austin that was the first car I ran on the road after passing my test in December 1987, by which time it was already 27 years old so a "classic" to many by then.

I bought a 1918 Ford TT in about 1960, before I had a driving licence. First 'driver' I bought was a 1930 OHC Morris Minor.

My first car was a classic, a red 1962 Mini Traveller reg 62 RYC. I bought it in the early 70s for £60 and sold it as a MoT failure (rust) for a tenner three or four years later.

Crikey Peter I have lost count of the cars I have driven since 1964.
the Mk3 Cortina was the first one I ever took to classic car shows in 1999. I bought it in 1999. It wasnt my first ever car....maybe nearer my 50th.

The first car I travelled in was a 1956 Morris Minor convertible "YEH 257", I had a 1966 Bedford CA van, bought for £90 in the early 80's followed by a similar aged mini, both ended up being scrapped for pretty minor MOT failure's

I acquired a 1972 Simca 1301, whilst still at school, it belonged to the schools librarian (Mr Whitaker) and he had had no end of trouble with it, he had paid £1000 for it and sold it to me for £60, as it would no start, we turned up with a new set of plugs, paid him, changed the plugs and drove off.....he was not amused; sorry Mr Whitaker

I wish Dad had held on to the 56 Minor, he had it from new and kept it for 16 years, the CA van only failed on a small bit of corrosion and a leaky damper I think I got £20 scrap for it in 1986

My first classic was also my first car, but I was reading classic mags at 17 so I classed it as a classic. It was a 1971 hillman Imp Californian, with the stilleto coupe roof. Very rare now I would think

My first car would be classed as a classic now, but in 1961 it was an old bomb! A 1946 Austin Ten sedan that my uncle gave me that used about the same amount of oil as it did petrol! Wherever I went, it laid a blue carpet behind it! As an apprentice, I was always short of the ready, so I used to buy second hand oil from a nearby wreckers yard!
My first vehicle that would satisfy the term classic in use at the time (1972) was an immaculate 1964 Jaguar Mark 2 (3.4 litre). This car, lovely as it looked and drove, would have been the most efficient way of boiling water known to mankind! I lived in Melbourne at the time and I couldn't use it in the rush hour during the summer! Happy days!

My first car was one that I bought from the scrapyard in 1982, a 1967 Austin mini. Drove it round the field for a couple of days and then sold it to a Mini specialist. It still lives.
My first real car (ie. drove on the public roads in 1982) was a light blue 1971 Citroën 2CV4. Sadly scrapped a few years later. A year later I got my first Imp, a 1969 Sunbeam Chamois. Cut it into bits in 1989 (shell completely rotten).

My first car was a 1947 Ford Ten in 1960, while I was stationed just outside Sheffield,two years after I passed my test, & cost £165.
