A friend of mine recently completed building a replica of this bicycle with another chap he rides penny farthings with. They visited a museum in France last year with permission to take photos and measure an original. They built either five or seven replicas, can't remember the amount tbh. I have never attempted the penny farthing but had a short ride on the Hirondelle. The seating position and frame is too high to pedal away, so it's one foot on a peg and scoot away like a penny and up onto the saddle. It's fixed wheel chain drive so similar to a penny except the chain drive and getting off requires use of the peg. I will try to post a photo tomorrow

A friend of mine built a replica 1819 Hobby Horse

A picture of it is here -

He also had one of the first tandems made which had a track rod between both sets of handlebars.

It would have been fun to ride as both riders could steer it.

it may also have been frightening if one person wanted to steer in the opposite direction to the other.
