A friend of mine recently completed building a replica of this bicycle with another chap he rides penny farthings with. They visited a museum in France last year with permission to take photos and measure an original. They built either five or seven replicas, can't remember the amount tbh. I have never attempted the penny farthing but had a short ride on the Hirondelle. The seating position and frame is too high to pedal away, so it's one foot on a peg and scoot away like a penny and up onto the saddle. It's fixed wheel chain drive so similar to a penny except the chain drive and getting off requires use of the peg. I will try to post a photo tomorrow |

A friend of mine built a replica 1819 Hobby Horse
A picture of it is here -

He also had one of the first tandems made which had a track rod between both sets of handlebars.
It would have been fun to ride as both riders could steer it. |
