Hi folks,
I found this forum fairly recently when I was looking for some info about Hillman Hunters ( more than likely to find some information so I could fix some minor niggle on mine!), and the Rootes topics have been helpful so thanks for that.
It's good to know I'm not the only person putting way too much time and effort into something, just for the fun of having something a bit different.

Ask if there's anything want to know or that you're curious about, I'm still feeling my way around the forum so expect plenty of "how do I do ..." type questions (some about Hunters, others about using the forum!)

Expect some background and pics when I find out more about how photos work here ...

Sooo ... if this works we should end up with a couple of before and after photos, to show what I started with and what I've got now Shocked

As collected / delivered (in 2011) - but after I'd fitted a set of matching wheels


And as it is fairly recently


I've just noticed how similar the 2 photos are - scary to think how much time and effort has gone into it and not much of it shows. Ho hum Rolling Eyes

Plans for the next month include fitting a spare set of doors and getting them painted before I move house and loose most of my storage. My original plan of "just drive it" didn't last long Laughing

Then I "just" need to make sure it's running happily, box up all my house/car/life stuff, and use the estate as it was meant to be used - moving boxes of stuff around the country.
It (and all my spares) are currently in North East/Tyneside, I'm expecting to be moving house sometime next month, then I'll be using the car for a few weeks working in Wales, I then need to decide where I'm heading after that. Never a dull day!

Always liked the Rootes Arrows even from when they were launched - IMO they were better built and a higher quality than the look alike Mk2 Cortina and just as stylish but nicer to drive.

Sadly they were no more rust resistant than other cars of the time

We have had three over the years and miss them

Hi Nomad, I've got a 70 saloon. Have seen your hunter on retro rides before too. The estate version is very practical indeed to carry stuff around! Sometimes I do wish mine was an estate infact!!

BigJohn - yep, the wheels are Ford. I've heard them called Dartboards, also Cortina GL (the ones in the first photo are from a Capri but used to rub the rear arches, I swapped them for a set from a Cortina/Escort as the offset suits the car better). I also picked up a set of slotmags last year, I've liked them since I was a teenager but now they are here I'm not keen - and I'm not sure why Rolling Eyes

When I got the car, it came with a spare set of Estate doors from a Sceptre, I had a look around all the doors today and it looks like I'll be keeping my original doors and cutting an inner repair section out of one of the Sceptre rears.
It means I can keep the original doors on the car, it also means I can finally sell off the spare Sceptre doors! Let's see if things go according to plan this time Laughing

Quite a lot done this week as I had some free time, and I'm keen to get as many odd jobs done as I can before I move house next month.

A quick headgasket change last nite (2 hours from start to finish) seems to have fixed my water leak, looking at cylinder4 with the head off it was obvious where the old gasket had failed.

Descision time, should I go for Originality or Restoration ?
The doors on my estate car are original and mainly ok, the front doors from my spare set are in better condition, the rears (from a saloon) are better on the outside but have problems with the inner skin.
I've had the spare doors about 6 years, today I finally got around to checking what the car needed.
I've ended up keeping the original doors on the car (it felt like the right thing to do), and just cut a small repair section from the inside of one of the spare back doors.

It means the car now has decent doors and I can sell off my spare set (it saves having to put a set of doors into storage in a few weeks time)
I also noticed the chrome on my spare set won't fit my estate, so the chrome is for sale seperately.
Does anyone need a set of doors or a set of door chrome? Any idea what the going rate is / what I should ask??
