thought there was someting strange about the front suspension set up on my pop, it did'nt look like any of the pic's in the book's and manual's i have, just found out it's a Bowden IFS, in 1959 it cost £20.00, it was a straight bolt on mod, a nice surprise, should ride even better when i fit the Woodhead shock bracket's and shock's,

£20? Give yer fifty quid for it.

gave the dynamo a good dig out, greased the bearing and found a blanking grommet that fitted the bearing end, someone had fitted a new phospher bronze bearing, but had'nt drilled it to allow the oil wick to touch the armature shaft, so i did, plus a lick of paint,

Should that main leaf spring be that flat. I know your suspension set up is different to standard but mine was on the bump stops and the spring was not as flat as yours.

paul,

i dare say after 60 year's the spring has lost a bit of it's spring, same as me lol, but you can see in the pic there's about 5" from the spring and the bump-stop, so i think it'll be fine, i've no plan's to mess about with it at the moment,

your suspension set up is different from mine I doubt it could ever hit the bump stops. If it rides ok happy days.

I have a more modern alternator [cannot recall what it came off, sadly..but it has a in-built diode regulator pack, rather then needing a separate one]....Paul Beck sent me [ a long time ago now] a pulley from a Ford Pilot....I needed to retain the big heavy combine harvester drive belts....I ground off the cast iron fins, and it mounted nicely on the alternator shaft [many have different sizes]....mounted low on the right side of the engine bearer.....was/am reluctant to hang dynamos or alternators off the cylinder head nuts...for obvious reasons...

The car it was/is in being a low special, the 10 hp engine was happy enough with a Mini radiator, laid on it's side.....and a large tee planted on the cylinder head .....t'uther end going to a home made header tank....engine ran cool enough with this...and an electric fan bolted in front [FIAT, IIRC?}....oh, it had a Ford export water pump....although I experimented a bit with one I believe came off a Maestro/Montego...[?]....which was the only separately-mounted water pump I could find in the scrappies....? [IE, one that was not involved with the cylinder block]

I'm now looking at trying out one of those electric water circulators found in modern VAG motors..small, plastic, might work, if I can find a suitable plug for it? I'm not afraid of making use of common modern technology, honest.

Anyone tried single point fuel infection on a Pop? Smile

I bought my dynamator ( alternator in a Dynamo case ) from car builder solutions, also plenty on eBay, the C39 C40 use the correct size spindle for the original pulley. I plan to remove the fan blades at some point and fit an electric fan and electric water pump, again plenty of those available from eBay, that's if I find it really necessary.
