It points to the dynamo output being wildly variable - these being thermal are only slightly sensitive to engine speed and were fitted to dynamo cars - the standard factory fit works well on out Rover P4 and P5 and also on our 1938 P2 all of which have positive earth dynamos as standard factory fit. You are not using LED's are you?

Is the earth good? I find that a poor earth is the cause of most bizarre electrical problems.
Good Luck!

It should work but I prefer the original electromechanical ones which need a narrow Wattage range. They lasted longer too

Just this very afternoon I bought one of the electronic flasher units (A 2 tag one from the same manufacturer) at my local Moss Europe, to replace the third tin can to have failed in the last three month. Half the price of the eBay one BTW.

The plot does thicken though. i had the dynamo cables the wrong way round. now occasionally the ignition warning light stays on when i turn the ignition off.

I had crazy volts from my 3 brush 6v Lucas, no charging, despite genny being overhauled. Cleaned the cutout points with wet'n'dry, volts stabilized, charged 8A.
