Morning all,

A40 pickups of any type are fairly thin on the ground. Here though is an example of the rarely-spotted (in the UK at least) Hi-Lite Coupe Utility, or "ute", a variant only produced in Australia. Those that exist in the UK therefore are all imports, just as is the case with the following project example.

Whether it's an improvement over BMC's original I'm not sure, but it's certainly distinctive.

An old photo of just such a machine in Oz, can be found on the main site: http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/a40devonute.htm.

I spotted that last night. Locally bodied which makes it unusual. A useful classic and as you say Rick, not so many pick-ups around.

Interesting. At first glance, it looks like a T. J. Richards body. But Richards, which became C.D.D. in 1947, wasn't involved with postwar Austins. My guess is that it's a Ruskin body. Austin took over Ruskin in 1948.

I prefer the panel van version to the pick up or ute, the Devon van has always appealed as they are quite stylish in appearance.
