Anyone fitted a air filter to a s1 Morris 8? What sort did you use? Can one be fitted to the end of the air silencer or do you have to take that off?

An air silencer already exists on most Morris 8's to which you can attach an air filter. I fitted one and it has not affected the performance. A number of others have also fitted them directly on to the carby.

Hi Peter, I have the air silencer just not sure how I could fit a filter in the end of it. Could you put up a photo off yours with the filter on please? In an ideal world I'd like to have a way I can fit a filter on the air silencer and then easily take it off when I want it to look right, just not sure how that could be done.

Sorry Matt, I don't have a Morris 8, only memories of my big sister's one that she had 50 years ago and I can remember that it didn't have its air silencer either! Sad

Here's a photo of the carb connection but it might be quite a tricky part to fabricate although still possible if you weren't too fussy about replicating the original.

I cannot see an air filter in the photo, maybe Peter thinks the air silencer is an air filter. I was trying to upload a photo of my air filter but cannot get the useless Photobucket to work.

I could be wrong but as far as I know there never was an air filter (as we now think of one) in the Series 1 Morris 8. I just assumed that Matt was using the term loosely to cover "that thing wot is attached to the carb intake"

Later cars did have a filter.

Correct Peter

The only air filter fitted to Morris 8's was to the later Series E, and then only the "Export" models, Morris must have considered that these foreign roads were dustier than our British ones!

If you a MR member there is a topic on the forum about fitting air filters to 8's.

Your all right, I'm just wanting to put a filter on because quite often our club will do runs on dusty back roads and in the interest of making sure she's still running in another 80 years I'm wanting to protect her as much as possible.
Still working on ideas so if anyone else has some let me know Smile

If you can't track down the Series E export job you could always try post 6 here: http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/forum/phpbb/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=14232&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=30
