Hello,

got some noise from the rear diff at 1 knock per drive shaft rotation.

Could be a broken tooth.

Any ideas or recommendation??

Where could I get spares in case I have really a need for a new cone and plate wheel?

The community in Germany is very limited.

Best regards

Mark

Hi Mark,

When I first put my SS on the road it had dreadful diff noise but I only needed to adjust the tooth meshing and it became a beautifully quiet axle.

See: http://www.nostalgiatech.co.uk/new_page_2.htm

I've not worked on a Morris 8 axle but did get a similar improvement by replacing the diff bearings in another Nuffield axle.

See: http://www.nostalgiatech.co.uk/new_page_30.htm

You really need to open it up to discover what it needs.

Peter

Hello,

I just looked at the teeth condition with a fiber optics.

The gears are really worn.

It is either the incredible power or it was run at a time without oil.

Does anyone have a spare drive or wheel set????

You are probably best putting a a request on the MR For Sale / Wanted forum, the diff is a mechanical M8 Achilles heel, we have looked at getting the crown and pinion gears made for the club spares, but its quite an investment and needs at least 20 sets to make it viable.
