I do believe from memory that it has 3 wires going to it.a red.a black earth and I cant remember the other colour.under the bonnet it looks like it has a fuse breaker fitted.but I believe it is of the later fuse type.not the glass ones that are standard

Red switch might be hazards? Starting to become popular around that time.,

Robo

Did you look at the link I sent earlier?

You might find the answer here... http://www.ado16.info/dashboard_layouts.php

There are plenty to choose from.

A 'K' registration is August 71 to July 72 so you may have a 71, or even a left-over 70 car.

If the car doesn't have a sun-roof it's probably not the ejector seat button.

I can't leave well alone so if it were my car I would follow the wire to satisfy my curiosity.

Or is this much a do about nothing?

Trying to trace the cable may turn into a "Comedy of Errors" but if it results in a situation where "All's Well That Ends Well" then "Measure for Measure" it would not be a "Love's Labour's Lost".

Nope....the diagram doesn't help.

Perhaps.....it's the car's Klingon Cloaking Device?

[My DAihatsu Fourtrak daily-driver has one....when I press it, the Fourtrak becomes invisible to all other drivers. I know it works, because one Sunday last year, on a quick trip into my local town, within the space of 15 minutes, 3 cars managed to hit my Daihatsu. All at different places, two within 200 yards of each other, none were my 'fault'.. the DAi suffered zero damage.....more than could be said for the other 3 cars......in fact, for 2 of the collisions, the DAihatsu wasn't moving.....I mean, it's not exactly small...so the device must work!]

I took my driving test[car] in an Austin 1300GT..and for the life of me, I cannot recall what that little red switch was for.....!!! Sad

There are apparently dozens of different 1100/1300 dashboards, depending on year, model & spec. I had 2 US models years ago - different again.
I was hoping robo0121 would post a photo of his dashboard & put us all out of our misery!

Austin did build a number of "Q" cars for use by MI5, could the switch have been for the "self destruct" system ?
