Hiya

I did my tank last year and so far everything has been fine.

I didnt have any holes in it but it was very rusty inside. I gave it a really good wash out with detergent first and then topped it up with water and soda crystals. Then connected one terminal of my battery charger to it and the other end to an old piece of studding as an electrode and let it fiz away for a while. (about 3 days I think., cleaning the electrode frequently)

Inside it was very good when finished and once thouroughly dry used Slosh to provide a bit of protection.

My sender was completely corroded and not working so I stuck a 12v Mini one in as a stop gap. I tested it on the bench with a 6 volt supply and it worked as you would have expected but now its on the car its not working. If you do find a source of 6v sender units pleas let me know.

Good luck.

Hi there,

You'll have great difficulty in finding a replacement sender unit for the Morris 8. I was lucky in being able to repaird mine with Pratley's Powda Bond, took a bit of jiggling but it is now working. The sender unit and gauge are matched.

Good luck,
Ralph

I had a badly dented and holed tank and found a sheetmetal worker who made a new one from using the old one as a sample. I had a set of fittiings from an even more battered and holed tank which I removed with a small area of tank material around each and he used these on the new tank after removing from the bit of tank i left on them. The only mistake I made was not getting the other tank back or having a second one made!

Hi all, I had a problem with the tank on my 8, half full of sand, and the sender float was trashed. After cleaning the tank with piece of chain I fitted a plastic float off a modern sender unit from the scrap yard making sure it was about the same weight as the old on and it worked fine. As the units are matched it may be difficult to fit anther if you can find one. Ralph
