regrettably the Riley has now been sold but the good news is that the new owner is carrying on the restoration and I have asked that he may continue the updates on this site |

Very interesting to read about your car.
In the early 1950's, I was a little lad and car mad. My dad had a 1936 Riley Nine Kestrel that he did repair work on to keep it on the road. About 1952, he announced that he was going to buy a new Morris Minor. I was very upset but that was it. The Riley (DMK622) went to the breakers.
My dad got what I felt at the time he deserved. He took the Minor (one of the first OHV ones) to France where it broke a connecting rod.
I mentioned the Riley to the proprietor of a museum in the Cotswolds that has (had?) several Rileys on display. He assured me that I was mistaken - there was no such thing as a nine Kestrel in the 1936 range. |

Hi all Riley owners HELP!!!
I recently joined the Riley register (P586) as I starting the restore a 12/4 Riley Merlin that has been in my family since 1963. There is very little information on Merlins and I have struggled to find good restoration pictures etc.
The sunroof on the car must have leaked many years ago because it has had a sheet of alloy covering the main roof area since we have owned it. I have just had this removed because of some rust and found the the factory hole for the sun roof but nothing else.
Are there plans available with the dimensions of what or how the sliding section was made ?
Would the forum members have such a document that I could get a copy of.
Are there any detailed photographs of existing Merlins that I could get access to that would show the mechanism, sliders and latching hardware ?
Any assistance would be much appreciated.
Thanks Craig Pidgeon |
