Oh those glorious days.....

Aquaplane tuned Ford 100E engines.

The smell of glass fibre.

The 'can I afford it' maths on a fag packet.

A 'Buckler' parts price list.

The systematic dismantling of an Austin 7/Ford 8.

Etc.Etc.

Oh, happy days !!

Indeed...there's something about the atmosphere of those days?

I can remember in the early 50's (prior to National Service!) helping a friend of a friend build his own special. I think it was Micron/Mistral body and it was being fitted to an Austin Seven chassis with the A7 engine being suitably tuned....I seem to remember that brakes were a problem...

Eventually it became 'roadworthy' and,if I remember, suffered an unfortunate end.

If 'specials' from that era are your 'thing' try and get hold of a book called 'Armadale to Aquila' by (the late) Tony Beadle in 2010. His book covers all sorts of cars manufactured in Hillingdon Middx. ie Coronet cars,Micron,Peerless Cars.

Good reading...!
