Hi
Whatever it is the rear overhang appears to be quite short compared with a lot of cars.

This is the also the case with the 100E Ford estates [Squire & Escort].

Allows the rear suspension to better support heavy loads, I suppose?

Penman answer is pointed to the car in front of the van (which I think is an Armstrong Siddeley Star Sapphire). But that cutout you see in front of the rear bumper is not the actual cutout for the rear wheel, it is of the rear wheel cutout panel which goes a bit more to the back of the car. Or, putting it differently, the rear wheel is more forward and as such the overhang is much larger.

Mmm I think it's genuine - late examples of Countryman, Pickup and Van A40s (as here) had the painted grille. The side windows look correct too. But I could be wrong..!

That's an early one with the separate (aluminium) rear wheel spats, and mazak grille. Laters ones had a painted grille, and rear arches incorporated within the body sides. I'd need to dig out my brochures to remind myself about the dashboards, but I think the ebay A40 is correct, with its Somerset-type column change.

The one my father had from his employer was, I believe a coachbuilt estate built on a pick-up. It was registered in February 1949 and had the square/separate instruments.

That would be a rarity if that had survived.

I was referring to that mystery tail end peeking in to the picture.
