Now as some people may know I recently purchased a 1930's trailer which my Son and I will restore so it still looks 1930's.
Its got me thinking, could we afford a 1930's car?
I am still kicking myself for not buying the Alvis pick up some one sold on here a years or two ago! My Son still moans about it too.
So I would want a car to use and travel to local shows in, I don't want a show winner just a road worthy drivable old car so what would it cost?
Some sort of pick up would suit us best, whilst I can afford to buy one I can't afford to pay for a full restoration, usual repairs are not a problem as I am an engineer and Son's keen to learn

So car or pickup? If the former, something like an Austin 10 or similar wouldn't be a bad bet. Prices aren't too mad, and there's good support from the club scene, plus decent parts availability by all accounts. You'd probably end up fabricating your own tow-bar.

This is the late-30s Austin 10 Cambridge, from the photo section on the main site.

There's a real nice Austin 10 on Ebay or carandclassic at the moment for 5k. Lovely original condition which would be a pity to convert into a pickup.

Another possibility, there's a 1948 Lea Francis on Ebay I think, in quite poor condition. This one is on the edge of savable. Because of that, and the fact there are no queues around it trying to save the car, converting it into a cheaper pickup might be the way to go. The same happened to the Alvis pick up which was also in a poor state. Coverting into a pickup is better than being scrapped.

A 1930's pick up would be hard to find, still plenty of 30's saloons about and some like the Austin 10's are very sensible prices.

That Morris looks a remarkably good buy; if it was originally registered in Jersey it doesn't really matter if they identify the registration number, it will need to be re-registered with the DVLA.

The interior looks well doesn't it - I'd want to see a few more photos of the bodywork (inc boot floor), but the price seems reasonable. Was the Series M a monocoque body?

That Morris is a lovely car and a very good price considering its coming from a dealer.

Jersey has a strong classic car scene and in a way it would be a shame for it to be exported.

I love the condition of the interior.

'31 Renault offers quite a few options @ £2k, given how little of the body remains.

Yes, the M series cars had a monocoque build. They also had a superb 8 port "free flow" OHV engine which was a great improvement on the pre war side valve units. Your advise to look in the boot (and elsewhere) is well founded but if sound these cars can be a little gem. It is sad that so many were scrapped when they introduced the original 10 year test but back then they had very little value. Whether we will see a surge in value of the more mundane cars in future I couldn't say but to me this sort of car is presently undervalued.

As used in MG TC and Y type so spares availability should be good.
