I have an old Motometer which appears to work when placed in boiling water.
However, when it cools, the coloured indicating fluid returns to the bottom of the glass tube leaving a bit behind as shown in the picture.
Does anyone know a way of rectifying this?
I have tried rotating it at 350rpm in my lathe for a few minutes to try and centrifuge it down but this has not worked.
Thanks
Mike

OK, so ive worked this out for myself.
To get the fluid back down to the bottom of the tube is very simple.
Hold the device vertically and bonk it up and down on a hard (wood) surface.
Keep going until all the fluid is back at the bottom.
Takes a couple of minutes.
I tried it in a mug of boiling water and it now works perfectly. |

Congratulations on fixing your instrument, but what does it do ? ? ?
Cheers, Tony. _________________ It may work in practice, but not necessarily in theory! |

It screws into the radiator cap of my 1927 Cowley to indicate water temperature. |
