I'm a sucker for these at the right price and especially for garage thermometers. I had the chance to pick this one up yesterday from a barn.

I have a few now, having come rather late to this passion, and will be screwing this to the wall later today after I've painted the rear with Kurust. It isn't chipped, but better be safe than sorry.

I have no idea of the worth, but he asked for £80 and I was happy to pay it. The condition is A- with a couple of rubs on the top corners. He says he may have more. I'm waiting......

He said he'd had it for around 30 years, so I guess it is original and to me the style looks to be 70s. He said he had friends with other signs so I left a card and hope I get some calls. I won't sell any of it on since it is to augment my own collection. Here's hoping.

this sort of thing is becoming more desirable these days. seen a few. really old rusty ones on Salvage hunters with Drew Pritchard.
nice. if w have a few bob to spare and other half isn't going to object ( new shoes and handbags get priority)
car related is good though we probably would. enjoy one relating to own marque or possibly something. oi based. such as Castrol?

£80 sounds very good for it to me. Sign prices have gone silly in the last few years.

Yes, I agree that £80 was probably too cheap, but two years ago I learned my lesson. This sign was offered to me for £400:-

Chenard Walcker sign by Tony Brown, on Flickr

I had a look at it and realised that this dated from the very first year of the 24 Hours, 1923. I said to the chap that I think it could be more valuable and that if he would come back in 24 hours I'd give him a fair price for it. He, unknown to me, was desperate for money and sold it for £400 that night. The purchaser put it into the Retromobile auction and got £10,000 for it. Now I just buy, even though I know it is too cheap.

PS I did a bit of research and it was too cheap. About £400 seems to be the price. So I am only £9,000 down now Shocked
