Hopefully below should be a couple of photos of my Commer, firstly when purchased out of a yard after 30+ years being left outside and then one of it as it looks now, 10 years and an awful lot of hard work later!!

Ellis, when I were a lad in Cumberland a company called J.A Pickthall of Cleator Moor used to run Commers and Bedfords in those colours. Is yours one them?
If it has an RM or AO reg number, then it probably was.

My Commer is a very early QX cabbed model with the slanted 6 cylinder petrol engine, its 1950 and a 5 tonner and is one of the earliest survivors of its type. It pre-dates the famous TS3 engine. This lorry was registered in West Sussex and was used on sheep and turf haulage. Once rubbed down we found the cab to be brown but we are not sure about the chassis colour so I chose to go for the red.

Great to see it, I'll move this over into the "Your Cars, Lorries ..." category, in the Rootes section along with your Hillman pics Smile

Hi
What are you going to put behind the cab?
Flat bed or Dropside to suit it's turf carrying history; or a Stock carrier body to suit it's sheep carrying?

The body she has is a high sided wooden dropside, i can't get a decent photo as the shed is narrow and since i have done the body the lorry hasn't been outside. Soon though I should have the rear wings all fitted up and then everything should be ready for her to move out.

My hat is truly doffed. We need people like you to keep our heritage intact. I woefully could only have made the tea and watched in wonder. She really is a beauty.

Thank you very much. I would say I have enjoyed the restoration but times have provided challenges! Its nice to stand back and look at her now and see the work we have done, my Dad still says every time we go down the yard that he can't believe what we've done. I can't wait to get her out of the shed and see her with the new body actually on her, its probably 4 years since she has been out and its only in the last year that I have made the body.

You should see my next project, my ERF is literally just a chassis and lots of boxes of bits!

Finally after 10 years of restoration, she was driven out of her shed under her own power. She went in as a chassis cab with no brakes / non running engine / no electrics / no body, the list goes on...

We just drove her round the yard to try the brakes and gears and cooling system. There are some issues we still have to overcome but to get this far is brilliant for us restoring as a hobby and on a shoestring budget.
