The big mistake in my opinion was calling the car a TR. Comparisons were inevitable. If the TR7 had been called a GT7 then again comparisons with the beautiful little GT6 would have been made. It was a new design so should have had a completely new name.

Shrek probably hadn't been invented yet. Laughing

Owning a TR8, I feel I have to come to the car's defence.

The TR7 was always meant to have two engine options, the 2 litre and 3.5 litre, and was originally intended to replace the MGB.

The bigger engined variant would have done a great deal to lift the model's reputation, but never really happened in the UK for various political reasons.

I agree, the styling is very marmite. Personally, I think the drophead looks pretty good these days. Not so sure about the fixed head.

As for the OP, these cars are demanding higher and higher prices, particularly early fixed head coupes without sunroofs (they make very good rally car replicas or track day cars).

As far as rust is concerned; they don't rust any more than a ford and a lot less than a Lancia or a Datsun!

In terms of desirability,I don't think they will ever match a 2 door Escort or Mk1 Capri, but you never know; every dog has his day.

Welcome to the forum, good to hear from a TR7/8's owner. Maybe start a thread about it to spread the word about these machines!?
