SS Cars Factory Office Entrance in 1937. The Art Deco sun burst doors no longer grace the building but are in the care of JDHT.
The "Now" photo thanks to Pekka Telivuo

The trousers were just about baggy enough though. I think that was a little more than 20 years ago.

Ah, Langport. Not far from us at all.
The car has a nice old Somerset number. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

That's interesting. You may be right but I thought the registration was VD which is a Lanarkshire mark. The photo was in an album that I bought because of other photos relevant to Edinburgh area (my locality). I assumed this was an Edinburgh family touring in England.
I suspect they were in convoy with the Rover whose registration is from Nairn (again Scottish).
The photo that I bought the album for was this of the 1937 Ravelston Flats one of which we used to own. Our flat was the first floor on the left of the sales brochure picture.
The 1937 sales brochure looked more exotic than the reality.
The entrance stairway was quite sexy though.
Most of my restoration of my SS Jaguar was done in one of the lock-ups attached to these flats in. As shown in this embarrassing video taken in 1993. The garage window on the far right of the 1937 photo was in the back wall of my lock-up.

I've been obsessed with the 1930s since I was a child and yes I was an avid watcher of Poirot.

Thanks Rick, I have no connection with the Berlin video. I was just given the 16 mm films by someone disposing of them. If you haven't seen it recently the Grimsby Commercial Travellers Association film came from the same source and is good fun. https://youtu.be/tjrQKRNMDlg

Back to the car in the Langport photo, it looks like a 1933 Austin Sixteen to me, although I have never seen one with that body style, which is not a Longbridge offering. It could be a Gordon body; they made quite a variety of styles on Austin chassis, although I have't seen a 1933 catalogue to verify this particular version. _________________ in the garage: 1938 Talbot Ten Airline

I also agree with bespoke coachwork on an Austin...but I have never been sure how to differentiate between a 12 and a 16 from photos.
Langport, for anyone who doesn't know is a lovely old place. It's like a time warp having somehow escaped the dreadful road widening schemes that have spoilt so many old towns. |

Thanks Mike, It certainly has much of the frontal appearance of the 1933 Austin 16 but also resembles the Hillman Minx but I think the Austin in closer.
