Has any one got one of these mechanical petrol pumps spare?

The one from my 8 is cracked on the petrol inlet side and, being made in Marzac (?) is irreparable.

I bought one and fitted it; when it was on the bench the vacuum pressure was 10lbs. When I fitted it to the Standard it would not work at all.....

Is your fuel line from the tank free of blockage?

Connect the pump to the fuel line but operate the lever manually (not attached to the engine) and without connecting it to the carb. and check if fuel comes through. If not use an air pump to blow down the fuel line from the engine compartment then try manually to operate the pump again.

Also worth checking that the tank isn't pressurising due to a blocked breather.

A foot pump strategically placed beneath the bonnet can be used to blow through the fuel line to the tank, get someone to listen for bubbling in the tank while you operate the foot pump by hand. I made an adapter from an old tyre valve and a piece of rubber fuel pipe, that makes this job quite easy.

Finally my Standard 8 is running....

I bought a recon. kit for the pump and managed to get an old workable pump from a fellow '8' owner. A friend who understands these things better than me assembled my original pump with the new 'bits' and,hey presto, the pump works with all the right pressures showing at the right places.

Thank you Phil.....!
