Just been watching this on TV.

Has the RAF featured in your, or your family's, history?

My Dad did his national service in the RAF from 1950 - 52.
Basic training done in Cosford then off to Egypt for the duration, playing in a dance band, touring around the various bases.

My fathers uncle served in the RAF during WW2, he passed away shortly after the war and was virtually forgotten by the family. That is until I found a photo of him in some possessions that were left by my Grandmother on her passing.

I have unsuccessfully been trying to piece together his wartime life. I will keep searching.

One of my grandfathers served in the RAF out in Iraq during the 1930s, and returned to the service once WW2 kicked off, flying in Mosquitos (Pathfinder) and Blenheims.

A great-grandfather, father to the above, flew with the RFC but died when his bi-plane came down in the channel during a delivery flight to France, in 1917. He turned up a few weeks later in fishing nets, at least he was given a proper burial as a result of being found. I have all the correspondence relating to his signing up with the RFC, right through to the telegrams that came through advising of his disappearance over the sea, and papers for his subsequent burial. I should scan them all and post them somewhere online.

Hi
Nobody in the family, but my PPL instructor was Bruin Purvis, he never told tales about his time in the service, I only found out about it when I read his obit.
