Have any of you come across this sort of grease nipple? It has no shoulder for a gun to lock onto and Doesn't have the usual hexagonal base to screw it in or out, tried to unscrew it with pliers with out success; it doesn't want to turn. I'm wondering if is effectivly riveted in?

Hi Dave,

My car has effectively the same type although mine are screw in types for lubricating my king pins. I have used them with a gun nozzle that just has little trumpet end but generally I unscrew them and screw the pipe of the gun directly into the hole.

I suspect that the nipple in your track rod end is simply flanged inside the steel surround and thus not removable.

Thanks Peter

will an off the shelf "Halfords" style gun work? or do I need something different to get some grease in?

My gun has this nozzle:

You won't get this type of clip-on nozzle to work:

would have thought these were used by simple pressure being applied a you pump grease .possibly old type of pump where body is used by applying force and no handle . the handle or trigger type ejecting grease when. squeezing trigger lever but needed a way of keeping nozzle in place eg flange.
on that type if I recall correctly it works by thrusting gun into compression to eject grease and at same. time as gun is pressured onto nipple the greases is thrust into it.
these tend to be older type guns though they are still available I am surehttps://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/318Q8FXH0WL.jpg
