The English Riviera Classic Car Show was held on the 22nd July and is organised by the Torbay Old Wheels Club and is held every July on Paignton Green as part of Paignton Festival Week. TOWC was founded in 1992 and the Car Show was first held in 1994.

The Show raises funds for the Festival which then go to benefit local charities. Up to 2017, over £45,000 has been raised by the Show – a record amount of £5,500 was raised in 2017 – and this is likely to be beaten by the 2018 event which was held in blisteringly hot conditions.
The Show attracts 400 vehicles - there would be more, but space limits the number.

Whatever your interest, you will find vehicles that satisfy your passion. Buses and commercial vehicles, classic British sportscar’s from Austin Healey, Jaguar, MG and Triumph, American muscle cars and hot rods, exotic supercars like Ferrari and Aston Martin, cars from film and tv – the Volvo P100 as driven by Roger Moore in The Saint and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.... the list goes on! The event is also well supported by the local car clubs.

One of the rarest cars in the world was on display and looking like it had come from a science fiction film - the Volkswagen XL1 – a 1 litre diesel plug in hybrid designed to be able to travel 100 km on 1 litre of diesel fuel achieving 280 mpg. Only 200 cars were ever built commencing in 2013. One was available recently in the UK at a VW dealership for £100,000. With its highly aerodynamic body including fared in rear wheels, and being constructed of lightweight materials it looks like the prototypes that you only see at motor shows....but that never make it to the road.

During the winter months the membership of TOWC hold monthly runs for its membership to travel around the local area in convoy.
