I often advertise wanted ads for spares for my cars and yesterday I had a call from a chap who is only about 30 miles from me. He had a few bits and pieces and after a while of talking he turned the conversation on its head, he said he is getting on a bit and would like someone with a similar interest to buy his complete car.
My car required a lot of restoration so out of interest I asked him a few questions, his car has always been dry stored, is low mileage, the bodywork is unmarked and original and the interior is superb, the list goes on and on.
The dilemma comes when he said the price, the figure he is after I can't even restore mine for!
As said many times before, I wish I had a bigger shed!

Good afternoon Rootes75,

I suspect the gentleman is getting on a bit and has been mulling this question over in his mind for quite a years, always hoping he will restore it more but knowing deep down he won't and possibly not wanting his pride and joy going to an errant son (or daughter).

I should meet up with him, bring him home to see your vehicle and how much you need spares. He may see a like mindrd individual and feel his beloved will be going to a good home and drop the asking price a tad.

Now, to the question of a shed...

Cheers, Tony.

So what is the dilemma?
If it means it has a very low price, then just buy it.
If it means it has a high price just forget it.

Good method to buy cars! People often shy away from advertising.

The chap has owned the car for 48 years, its always been stored inside, the interior is superb, the paintwork is unmarked and the underside is oiled. He said the dash clock is missing and it has a 1946 bumper instead of the 1938 original. The car is a timewarp.

The price is under £5k.

Sounds great.

If you can afford it, buy it, worry about storage afterwards Smile

I broached the subject with my better half tonight, no response..

I have no more storage and the kitty is not too deep, in a case like this I would have to sell some things before I bought something else.

Ah, I know that death stare of "No response". It might be best to pass on the car then.
In my experience sleeping with one eye open is not conducive to a good nights rest, also it is almost impossible to hide all the sharp objects in the house. Laughing

I have just sold, reluctantly, a 1954 Land Rover Series One 86" after owning it for over eight and half years. It is one of the first 300 made and I sold it to concentrate on the Mark 2, the Series 2a and the M3 E46 I bought five years ago and have driven it all of 300 miles.

And guess what, a Ford Cortina 1600E in Aubergine has appeared in the form of my cousin's husband's friend who wants a change after 10 years.

I hope money isn't mentioned because I'm told he doesn't want an unreasonable sum for it.

It's at a time like this that I wish my main interest was in growing orchids.

We are all enthusiasts and at the end of the day whatever we have we will be tempted into preserving something else!
